MagWiper MW-1B
Benefits

Leaks of confidential information are one of the biggest risks corporations face when scrapping PCs or returning them to a leasing company. The Japanese-made MagWiper MW-1B EPS Degausser incorporates the latest technology and is the world’s most compact, lightweight and efficient instant degausser in its category. It utilizes maximum power to meet the needs of ordinary corporations and government institutions for erasing confidential information. Its portability and efficiency are also a boon to businesses providing data-erasure services.

The MW-1B completely erases digital data on all functional or non-functional magnetic media including PMR/LMR hard disk drive and reel/cartridge tapes regardless of data capacity or interface type. The equipment works by saturating the media’s magnetic field, thus eliminating all data. Such data cannot be recovered. Servo tracks are also erased so media that use servo tracks (e.g. HDD) cannot be re-used. Since software is not used to erase the data, the system is not dependent on OS.

The MW-1B utilizes ADC’s leading edge technology background in degaussing, data recovery and data processing to produce an approx. 20,000 gauss field in a patented erasure zone design. This enables characteristics and performance that are at the top level for NSA listed degaussers.

MagWiper MW-1B Erasure Characteristics.
Safety The MagWipers have been tested to validate safe operation with low-level field leakage.
Portable Relatively small and light. Easily transported to various locations for on-site media erasure.
Simple Operation Only need to insert the target in the chamber, push the “Erase” button, and remove the target.
Flux Density Display A front-panel LCD displays the magnetic flux density used for the data erasure..
Malfunction Alarm If the magnetic flux density drops below a specified value, an alarm LED lights.
Operating Indicator A flashing light at the chamber door edge visually confirms that a magnetic field is generated.
Cooling Function A cooling fan operates as required during the operation.
LCD Display The LCD shows total number of erasures and magnetic field intensity used for the last erasure.
Door Lock The chamber door locks on closure to prevent operator hand insertion, or target ejection.
Use of Trays Permits preparation of next load during recharge.
Government Standards Meets PCI DSS, Data Security Standard, NIST Guidelines, NIST SP 800-36, NIST SP 800-88,
HIPAA, PIPEDA, GLBA (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act), and California Senate Bill 1386 standards.
Validated By NSA Testing, Approval and Listing

The MW-1B with its 20,000 gauss field totally erases magnetic data in accord with NSA/DoD requirements for the current top coercivity targets of 5,000 Oe 3.5” and 2.5” HDD and 3,000 Oe tapes, with sufficient power available for future media coercivity growth. The testing also shows safe levels of external field. Thus, the MW-1B meets all US government mandate requirements.

The National Security Agency (NSA) is the chief section within the US Department of Defense (DoD) concerned with collecting information using electronic devices, as well as analyzing, amassing and reporting on the information collected.

The NSA has its own requirements for each type of security equipment, including degaussers

Advanced Design’s MagWiper MW-1B, a degausser that uses magnetic pulse generation, has passed the strict qualification inspection of the National Security Agency (NSA)/Central Security Service (CSS) and has been approved for inclusion on the list of NSA-evaluated products.

It is the only non-US/non-European model approved by the NSA from Japan or the rest of Asia.

Compliance With International Standards
UL LOGO FC LOGO

MagWiper MW-1B has been tested by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) which is the largest and best known independent, not-for-profit testing laboratory in the world and verified to comply with the applicable international requirements for product safety (UL/cUL) and electromagnetic compatibility (FCC).

Degaussing management system (option)

Simple way to turn erasure record (log) into a database.
Improves erasing efficiency and helps prevent human error during operations.

Provides a simple way for anyone to store the erasure log as a database by using a barcode reader to scan product information on the hard disk surface. Then simply place the media in the MagWiper degausser and press the erase button. The barcode reader automatically captures the hard disk part number (P/N) and serial number (S/N), eliminating the risk of transcription errors that can occur with manual inputting.

Incorporates an erasure log management function.
Provides an easy way to search, check and print out details of erasure operations.

By registering user information in advance, you can view the logs of operations performed by the relevant user. Select any log from the list to check that no operational steps have been missed or to perform additional registrations. You can also get a CSV-format readout or list of detailed information about the erasure record.

* Some previously shipped models do not support all options. Please contact us for details.
